Many people have already started using the Bit Torrent services that allows you to download songs, movies, and other media files at lightning speed. There are thousands of Bit Torrent users that have actually abandoned Kazaa, Shareaza, and LimeWire in the hopes of being able to get their music and media files faster. Indeed, Bit Torrent services allow users to download their media files up to ten times faster than any other regular files-sharing program would. Torrents are actually a true peer-to-peer networking file sharing program as users are able to directly download a song or a bit of a movie from another person.

If you’re having trouble with your torrent service, though, there may be any number of reasons why. Here are some ways to not only bolster the rate at which you download songs from a Bit Torrent service, but also so that you can take part in these services as a true file-sharing partner.

ISP Preventions

The first issue that may be your trouble if you’re experiencing slow downloads through a Bit Torrent service may be your actual Internet Service Provider. Many ISPs actually manage to block and prevent torrents from working as they are supposed to because of unnecessary controls and manipulations with the system. But in order to avoid this problem you need to actually manipulate the system yourself. The typical ports that torrents usually work at are 6881 through 6999. The first port that they try is 6881, but then they work up through 6999 to find an available channel. In order to get around the system to make your downloads faster and prevent your ISP from interfering, all one needs to do is add the number 1 in front of the ports 6881 and 6999 in their torrent service client. This will prevent your ISP from interfering with your torrent downloads.

Firewall Trouble

Another issue that you may want to check on is your firewall. Unknowingly, many people may get their torrent downloads slower because of the bit torrent services themselves. Many bit torrent trolls may actually monitor who is sharing and who is simply “leeching,” or just grabbing all of the media files without sharing. But what is not widely known that is that firewalls do not like bit torrent services so they tend to block and prevent most of the downloads from occurring at a rapid rate. There are a couple things that you can do at this juncture if you find out that your firewall is blocking bit torrent services. If you are using Windows XP then you should decide whether you want to turn on or off the service whilst you are using the Bit Torrent service.

Turning off your firewall would be more effective, but you can also get around the issue also. To do this would be to configure your firewall to make an “Exception.” When you add this “Exception” then all you need to do is add the port 6881 or 16881 and the name Bit Torrent to get the firewall to recognize the service.

Both of these issues are very common when dealing with Bit Torrent services and the solutions provided help you increase the bandwidth rate and which downloads are completed from your other peers. Having a faster download time essentially means more music, video, and movie files for you to enjoy!

I think one other way to speed up BitTorrent service is the use of client based BitTorrent like BitComet. It is certified non spyware application which can smartly manage downloads and can optimize network connections. At the moment, BitComet is available for Windows users for free.

BitTorrent is a tool for distributed download. Go to http://www.bittorrent.com/ for the latest version,
or http://www.bittorrent.com/dl/?C=M;O=D for source and older versions.

I am using Limewire at the moment.
