Lets face it, the computer industry is the fastest changing market today. To keep fully up to date with your computer you either have to purchase a new one every 6 months, or upgrade most of it every 6 months. It is much more cost effective to not worry about staying right on track with the newest computer parts for two reasons, first: it is really expensive ton continuously upgrade and buy a new computer, second: buying a slightly older computer is usually much cheaper because prices go down. So the time has finally come to buy a new computer, but you want to save as much money as possible without downgrading much. How can you achieve both?

By far the cheapest way to buy a new computer is to build it yourself. It is not difficult to do once you fully understand how everything works. Simply purchase the right parts either online or in a store and if they are compatible they will fit together perfectly. Buying the most expensive parts online is the best choice because online stores almost always offer much lower prices. Building a computer can be fairly simple if you know what you are doing, or if you have a friend who would be willing to help, but not everyone has the skills necessary to custom build a computer.

Another cheap way to buy a new computer is from Dell Outlet. Dell Outlet sells refurbished, reconditioned, and open-box Dell computers. Anytime someone buys a Dell computer and realizes they ordered the wrong thing they will usually return it, and that computer will then be sold on Dell Outlet. Also, if a computer is found to have a hardware problem it is sent back to Dell and then fixed up. Once the computer has been completely repaired it is then sold on Dell Outlet with a full warranty. The best part about Dell Outlet is the price. Because these are not technically “new” computers they sell them for much less than they would normally cost, but you will never be able to tell the difference between refurbished and new. If you are shopping on Dell Outlet you have to be fast because their best deals on computers always go fast. Dell Outlet is a great way to buy a Dell computer at a much lower price, and you don’t have to worry about building your own computer.

Of course the last, most common way to buy a computer is to simply order it from a company like Dell, HP, or even buy one in a store. Buying pre-built computers like this is the most expensive because not only are you paying for the computer, you are paying for the convenience as well as the labor. Before buying a computer it is important to look at all the specifications before spending any money. Whether you are custom building, buying refurbished or buying a pre-built computer always look at company reviews, product reviews and overall satisfaction.

Recently there has been a lot of talk about people hacking the iPhone and the new iPod Touch, it came as a surprise to some that there are people brave enough to do this but its really not a new endeavor. Well before the iPod touch there was the original iPod, which was also hacked to many degrees. Any iPod, ranging from the very first version up to the 5.5th generation iPod video could be hacked multiple ways. There were, and still are, two major hacks that can easily run on these iPods. Those hacks aren’t actually hacks but rather unofficial firmware for your iPod. The two main firmware systems are: iPod Linux, and Rockbox.

We’ll begin with iPod Linux, which functions nearly the same as Linux would on a computer, but is designed specifically to run on the iPod. Through iPod Linux users are capable of the same video and audio playback they expect from their iPod, but with added support for different encoding types. Another popular addition through iPod Linux is the ability to play games such as Doom and Doom II as well as Gameboy and even NES games. iPod Linux is only compatible with 1st-5th generation iPods as well as the iPod Mini, iPod Photo, and the first iPod Nano. Installation is fairly easy, simply connect the iPod to your computer and run the iPod Linux installer. It will install all the files necessary and properly configure everything on your iPod.

Rockbox is another of the most popular iPod firmware hacks. Unlike iPod Linux, Rockbox was created for many different types of mp3 players. Rockbox was created to add playback support as well as make many mp3 players more customizable. Rockbox adds the ability to play many different formats of music, and thus takes away some restrictions put on mp3 players by their manufacturers. Rockbox works on the same iPods as iPod Linux, but it will also run on various iriver, SanDisk, and other media players. The primary goal of Rockbox is to give the user more choices in display, and through the use of thousands of user created themes nearly any look can be achieved. Custom themes are easy to install or create, so everyone can have their own style iPod. Installing Rockbox is also quite simple, all you do is either run the install file, or copy and paste a set of files onto your media player. The rest of the setup is automated!

Both of these firmware hacks provide their own benefits and downfalls, such as battery life but thousands of people still use them. The ability to change what the iPod display looks like is one of the biggest reasons for these firmware hacks. Probably the biggest downfall is product safety. It is nearly impossible to damage or destroy an iPod with these hacks, but it can happen and if it does your warranty is most likely void. So next time you see a story about hacking the newest iPod, don’t feel left out because odds are you can hack your older iPod too!

Everyone wants timely update of information or news. Do you notice how difficult it is to browse through different websites just to scan over favorite tidbits of information? A user will painstakingly scan these websites for new updates everyday, which is not really convenient. Management of favorite websites has always been a problem for Internet users.

The Current Dilemma of Website Users

A user has the option to subscribe to an email newsletter from a favorite website for everyday updates and news. But not many enterprise firewalls provide easy delivery of emails especially from unknown sources. Chances are, most of the email newsletter subscription will never reach the user.

Spamming is also a common problem from joining email newsletters. Private information will be easily made available to fraudulent entities that will spam the user with marketing information or they may attempt conduct phishing or extraction of private and confidential information from the user.

Feeded Solution to the Problem

Rich Site Summary or RSS is a format for delivering constantly changing web contents. With the use of RSS feeds, news and podcast channels can be broadcasted in real-time. These web contents can include blogs, headlines, podcast channels that can be displayed properly using RSS.

RSS makes it possible for people to be able to view updated contents of their favorite websites. Rather than checking them manually, people can readily see the updates. A user can easily subscribe to a RSS feed from the website by clicking the RSS icon. The feed contents can be viewed by using a feed reader or what they call news aggregator.

What are the benefits of RSS? RSS helps people to manage various information from multiple websites via their regular feeds. They do not have to create their own management portal for news updates, instead, the RSS can do it for them. Users will be assured of fresh information since RSS feeds continuously update their news and channels. Another is that the privacy of a user is maintained. Users do not have to join each newsletter from his favorite websites. A RSS feed will be available to provide him fresh news everyday.

Popular Feed Readers

A variety of feed readers was developed across a variety of platforms in the Internet. Depending on your taste and preference, feed readers or news aggregators can be selected for Windows, Linux or Macintosh platforms. Popular feed readers running on these platforms include Newsgator and Feed Reader for the Windows platform, and Amphetadesk that can run across all three platforms of Macintosh, Linux and Windows. Web-based feed readers such as Bloglines, My Yahoo and Google Reader can also be used.

Using RSS feeds, Internet users will be able to save time and effort in collecting valuable information from a number of favorite websites. The problem with the Internet is that it provides free and unfiltered access to a vast collection of websites. It is now to the discretion of the Internet user which sites are worth keeping tabs with for future reference. Using RSS feeds, this will be of no problem for him.
