Its official, in all web traffic one in twenty of all people go to social networking sites. This is a huge increase over the past months. Social networking has become an all time fad on the online scene, with companies growing in traffic in astronomical proportions. Look at you tube, from where they were before they jumped up an astounding two hundred and forty some percent. Can you believe that? Two hundred and forty percent. Out of all the domains in the united states, MySpace is listed in rank twenty three. Out of all of those people who head to these websites, most of them are heading to MySpace. An astounding 82 percent of people who are heading to social networking sites are heading to MySpace. However there are some other honorable mentions. Look at places such as bolt or orkut, they are still making big strides in getting traffic to their social networking sites.

Now, let’s look at a few other different things. Let’s look at the affect that things like MySpace are having on other companies. The advertising revenue MySpace is getting is insane, but look at all the traffic they drive out to advertisers websites. 2.4 visits to the shopping and home category come from my space. That’s up eighty three percent. A lot of businesses are making money by having advertisements placed on MySpace. And it’s only going to get better, they have added new multimedia functions which are sure and I mean sure to drive more traffic to the site.

Now, you think MySpace is the only social site that is making these huge strides? Your wrong. In the photo and video world companies are doing the same if not better. Let’s look at you tube, you tube is visits were up two hundred and forty nine percent. TWO HUNDRED AND FORTY NINE PERCENT! Can you imagine the amazing possibilities of making money via YouTube if you advertised there? Photobucket and flickr are also doing quite well in bringing more and more traffic to their sites.

It’s obvious that not just the teen generation but everyone is getting into the social networking craze. And with more and more sites popping up on a daily basis this is sure to get bigger and bigger. Now let’s examine why these sites are so big. I’m going to talk about one in particular. MySpace, I think that it’s the biggest and best in the business. So let’s talk about them. The first thing you may notice on MySpace is the forums, forums are always fun to me. To be able to meet and discuss things with people without having to sit down and meet them is an awesome thing indeed. Next let look at the photo and video capabilities of MySpace, they are bringing real heat and competition to sites such as YouTube by offering video sharing, and competition to Photobucket and flickr by enabling photo gallery sharing. We havent even discussed the groups, blogging and chatting features of this site. It’s clear MySpace is here to stay and will be the front man in the future.

In this article I’m going to talk about starting and promoting a social network. Social networks are groups that people can go to or attend and become a part and exchange social interaction. These groups can range in different ways and things. Social groups can be online where you meet in a chat room or a group on a site such as MySpace or some other forum. Or social networking can be a face to face thing, The face to face social networks I find are the best, and are the most effective way to do things. They are fun, exciting, fresh and new. So let talk about that first.

First you need to find something that interests you. Something that could interest you could be a business that your running, a job type, a hobby, etc. Once you find the thing that you like you will need to find a place to host your social network. The best types of places I’ve found are place like coffee shops, etc. I know of a coffee shop in Denver that allows you to have gatherings here free as long as everyone buy drinks. Think of that! I’m sitting in that shop right now. So you find a place that you can host at, some places to look also are bars, restaurants, libraries, social clubs and more. You find the place now you need to promote it, and that’s the heart of what this article is all about.

Promoting your network can happen in a variety of ways. For any social network to be productive you need to have good promotion. One way is word of mouth, say you’re starting a computer interest group. Look for techie and tell them, and tell there theres going to be free food or there’s going to be other things there. This will bring and drive attention to your group, then tell them to tell their friends about what you have going, the word will spread quickly.

The next thing I’d suggest you do is some online advertising. Places like Craig’s list allows advertising for free. You can actually go on their sites and post social gatherings and groups without having to pay money. Chats that are centered on specific areas are also awesome places to post advertisements. Next thing I would look at is print media. There are many options for print media. You can put things in magazines and newspapers that are dedicated to the type of group your starting. Like for instance hackers (whether ethical or not) can advertise in 5280 the hacker magazine for free. Or look at things like sections in your local newspaper. So no matter the budget you have, you can start a social network cheaply and at a good rate. I’m looking forward to seeing more groups pop up, start one today!

Social Networking is such a huge thing these days. In person, on the internet, and now you can carry it with you. That’s right, on your phone. You now have the ability to network while say on the bus, on the job (though its trouble if your boss catches you.), you have the ability to network wherever and whenever. Think I’m lying? Fifty million people this year around the globe will be getting into social networking via the phone. By the time we get to 2011 its going to be up to one hindered and seventy four million people.

What are the reasons for this increase? Well one of the factors in this increase is the fact that now more than ever people have access to the broadband web. Fifteen years ago it was barely heard of to have a slow mo dial up connection. Now I don’t hardly know anyone myself who has anything less than DSL, with cable being the average and the super geek running with T1 lines. The fact that you can now have internet on your cell phone is also a big factor into why people are interacting via social networks through the phone.

Take for instance the company Helio. It’s a small up and coming cell phone which boasts some of the best phones in the business. Not only that they have some awesome services and an awesome web browser. In fact this web browser says it’s so fast that sometimes It beats your home networks connection. Now look at what they provide on their phones, you can access MySpace directly. Imagine that. Directly you can access MySpace, say your in the club hanging out with some of your fave friends and you want to advertise this online or make photos easier for them to get, well MySpace on Helio is to the rescue. You take the picture with that six megapixel phone and then you can upload it directly to MySpace and put it on your profile all in the club.

Looking at other companies they are not behind on this craze either. A lot of people may have heard of a company that’s getting bigger and bigger called cricket communications. Cricket phones are so big because of the fact that you can call and talk and text all day cheaper than the other services. You can do it unlimitedly and it doesn’t require any credit checks to get with them either. And so while they may not be Helio, they offer the net to their customers as well. Look at what they have… MySpace mobile, m3 communities, ad much much more. Even on a phone service that’s been touted as being cheap there are people that can connect to the webs mobile communities.

This is the future of networking. Imagine networking on the phone and web at the same time your networking in person, this is an amazing ability! So look forward to the new era of networking, it’s in the palm of your hand.

Intelligent chatty machines? Are we in the future so fast? There’s a startup company out there that is bringing the future to us. This company is making a dream come true, a machine that can talk to you. You don’t understand what I mean I don’t think. I mean image when you need to send an email to say your friend, telling it to send an email to Kenny and tell him that the business meeting is going well. Just calling a machine and then the machine doing just that for you. The thoughts of the abilities are insane.

Cognitive Code is waiting on fifteen patents, but we are only days or months away from a computer system that can understand what you’re talking about. The uses are endless. I think that the personal assistant position may fade out some day because you will be able to do their functions without having to pay them. But I still think that this is a far ways away from happening. So let’s delve into what this machine is all about. In this article I will outline the basic idea of what this technology means and what it could do for us. So let’s get to it, okay?

First and foremost the computer remembers the conversations that you have had with the computer before. Then it will take what you say and will then cross refence what you said to what was said in the past. So as you speak and talk to the computer the computer remembers and then evolves into a cognitive machine, being able to respond to what you have said in normal conversation. You also don’t need to speak a special way to this computer, all that will be required is that the computer understands your speech patterns and is able to cross reference that information.

Now don’t get ready to do this just yet. There is still a little bit of wait till this technology drops and is ready for the streets. The first thing that it must overcome is language. There are hundreds of languages spoken all over the world, the machine needs to learn what language are being spoken and then compute the information. This I the first major hurdle that must be overcome. Once the language issues are worked out, then we move on to the next hurdle.

Copyrighting and patenting is a major issue. This is a cutting edge technology and without the proper protection it’ll be poached faster than an elephant in the savannah. So it’s understandable that the company is taking its time to make sure its work is copyrighted and patented before releasing the product. However the working beta of this project is working, so time only knows when this will be on our shelves. So just imagine it, a year or two by now being able to do all your computing functions by simple talking to your computer, what an amazing feat, I look forward to it.

Answer me this question, does Social Networks have any real value? I believe that they do. I believe that they have huge value. Social networking is simply too powerful to ignore in our day. It’s done more than ever, and is a key to success in many situations. In another article I wrote about how this was the past and I will recap in this one. Social Networking has been around since the days of cavemen. From those very day people have gotten together in social settings to further push their business agendas. The days of social network and exclusive clubs go way back. Take Skull and Bones, a prestigious Yale University secret society. It’s been around since the eighteen hundreds, does that network have real value? Ask George Bush Sr. or George W. Bush if this has value. It could be these socially made connections that put them in the white house. Clubs and networks like this exist everywhere and re prevalent in our day to day society. These networks such as Skull and Bones show real dividends. How? Power, Jobs, Financial success and position. These people start off as young college students and end up in the most powerful places in society and what do they do? Look out for their friends?

Social Networks are not just for the rich elite, though the halls of power are full of them. Social networks of value can be found anywhere and everywhere. Go to a neighborhood bar and you can find a social network. Nightclubs, businessmen clubs and associations are just some of the few places you can find social networks. Look for social networks, the network may not even be the type of place that you want to attend, or the type of people that you wish to be associated with. But go and check it out, because I’m going to teach you a crucial and vital fact. Have you ever heard of the saying “I know a guy?” This is a powerful statement, listen to me now. Say you go to a local bar and while you may not see people that are per say hiring someone for your field, what if they are friends with a corporate recruiter of a company you want to work at? Or what if they know someone, a significant other, a family member or relative that may be looking for someone of your skills, well you just been hooked up via a social network.

That’s all a social network is, people who know people who know people. This is how it happens, and it can spell big dividends. Social networks and associations have resulted in people obtaining jobs. It has resulted in people getting into the right schools and places, doing this has placed people ahead of short lists and even gotten people jobs they were not really qualified for.

So I think I’ve expressed the worth and value of these social networks. So are you ready? All it takes is being social and you will be ready to go out there and meet people!
