The iPhone, specifically the team behind iPhone (hello Steve Jobs), has given us many reasons to ditch this mobile phone slash multimedia tool slash somewhat pocket PC platform. It’s finicky like a high maintenance girl friend and at the same time it has the temper of a boorish boy friend.

At the top of the reasons list is the fact that it is a very restrictive phone and unless you lock it, you remain with AT&T. What if you are a Sprint or a Verizon user? No sir, you have to switch to Cingular turned AT&T or else you can not use the iPhone. Second, it has a number of bugs you have to deal with that you get tied up with the customer service line for an hour or two just trying to get the darned thing fixed.

That is why the Apple iPhone team keeps on releasing latest iPhone updates to keep us consumers hold on to the phone after our initial attraction to this one of a kind mobile sweet body has faded. As they say, beauty fades but hardware and software capacity is endless. So what are the latest iPhone updates nowadays?

Aside from the fact that the Apple iTunes store has released more third party applications that we can definitely use, some of the latest iPhone updates are as follows.

One, the team has finally fixed the call dropping and the phone crashing problem that seem to keep on happening to a handset that has a lot of third party applications installed. It was beginning to get annoying but thank goodness that has been fixed.

Two, the issue of the scary “Blue Screen” appearing when the iPhone (or iPod or iTouch) is plugged to a PC that has a Windows Vista operating system was also remedied. No longer will your heart thump for a couple of nerve wracking seconds when the “Blue Screen” pops up.

Three, iPhone’s text messaging speed and contacts list loading speed has also improved. No more waiting time for you while you message your husband to pick up the dry cleaning and you will no longer wait feverishly while you search for that hot chick’s number hoping that you were not too drunk to forget to ask her digits.

Four, we all know how whacked the accuracy of the 3G signal of this mobile phone. Bar code says that the signal is at the maximum level but you still are having a hard time with the 3G. Well worry no more as the display is now more accurate. It would have been better if the Apple people would address the strength of the signal for us to have a better 3G reception but let them work on that for their next update.

Five, like Motorola’s mobile phones, the Apple iPhone will now also have repeat alerts for messages received.

All these latest iPhone updates plus a whole lot more on security patches and mobile phone security are all available on the iPhone 2.1 updated software.

The 2008 British Technology Awards winner iPhone has oodles of updates that sedate and excite the multitude of iPhone users around the globe. Latest iPhone updates range from making the hardware more user friendly to making it more of a pocket PC than a mere mobile phone that can play mean sounds.

And now, what other latest iPhone updates are being concocted for this one of a kind mobile and multimedia phone that took the world by a storm and shook a lot of Blackberry users to switch to a sleeker and sexier gadget?

Well, one update that I cannot get over with which may not be much of an update to some is that Apple officially told the world about third party applications not only for the iPhone but also for the iTouch.

Steve Jobs actually made this shout out to the Apple iPhone community back in 2007 when he placed a note on the “Apple Hot News” site. He said that they will be having and SDK sent to the developers and that they are also rooting for the development of third party applications for the iPhone.

Steve Jobs, if you only knew how much everyone else is also “rooting” (actually a better term is clamoring) for third party apps for your wonderfully designed gadget.

He continued to say that they are all very enthusiastic in having a community of developers for said third party apps for us to have bucket loads of applications to use. The iPhone, he said, is perfect for third party apps due to its powerful capacity, state of the art software and touch screen capability.

We could not agree more. The iPhone is really ripe for the picking, even from the start, for developers to go wild and offer us Apple ready applications so we can drive this mobile platform to maximize its potential and suit our daily communication, multimedia and work needs.

Steve Jobs backpedaled to the reason why it took a long time for them to finally release the SDK to the developers back in February because they were making sure that the platform will become resistant to the terrors of the non-Mac platforms – viruses, spy ware and other malicious wares.

This platform will be requiring something that Nokia also requires, a so-called “digital signature” that makes applications confirm that they are from a reputable source or developer.

Of course, the third party applications for the iPhone and the iTouch will still need to go through rigorous testing by Apple and will be controlled by them. These applications, once developed will also most likely be sold only through the iTunes hub or stores.

This and many more latest iPhone updates are being concocted by the Apple people to keep us iPhone users excited and keep our iPhone by our belt side. Although the iPhone’s somewhat limited capacity (relative to other top generation phones) keeps on tempting us to get it unlocked, it is on its way to becoming the versatile mobile phone of our wildest imagination.

iPhone: Now What?

Posted In: Uncategorized

When the iPhone first came out, a lot of users complained. The people behind iPhone replied by opening the phone to third party applications and giving it more capabilities without having to unlock it.

But with the emergence of “ideas for iPhone killers” such as HP’s touch screen version of the iPaq Smartphone or Blackberry’s Blackberry Storm or T-Mobile and Google’s G1, what else will and can Apple’s iPhone offer? Are there still latest iPhone updates still being released?

The answer is a simple yes. Apple team and “Apple friends” companies not Apple but are making their fair share of latest iPhone updates for this 2008 Gadget of the Year in the 2008 British Technology Awards.

Below are some latest iPhone updates worth noting regarding this Best Mobile Technology winner (also of the 2008 British Technology Awards):

Breath Pacer
This is a one of a kind application developed by Larva Labs. This iPhone application was made to help you breath slowly and take advantage of the benefits of breathing that way. This application is said to create a personalized breathing method for your height and it guides you through your breathing pattern. Best used, according to the developers, in relaxing and reducing stress levels.

Mobile BC
This application was launched by the people in BlogCatalog. This is an application that allows one to access various social networks in one access. Social Networks like Facebook, Digg, Flickr, MySpace, Multiply, Delicious and You tube among others can now be scanned using the Mobile BC.

Pocket Pirate
This is a rather funny application that is more of a comic relief than a useful application. This application places 8 keys on your iPhone screen that will speak “pirate-inspired” phrases for you.

Belkin Leather Flip
Want to remain stylish yet protect your iPhone from scratches and scuffs? Then buy yourself the Belking Leather Flip that will let you protect your iPhone and then slip it in your bag with carefree ease.

H2O Accessories
For those who love to take a dip in the water and still have their iPhone with them all the time, H2OI made water proof head phones and water proof arm bands that can withstand up to over 3 meters of depth. It also has a clear window for touch screen for ease of use.

Kensington Car Charger for iPhone
If you travel in your car a lot, then this will be a welcomed relief from iPhone dying on you while on the road. Kensington developed Car Charger and Car Charger Deluxe. They can both charge your iPhone while on the road while the deluxe version offers a secure place to lock your iPhone in and a swivel ready arm so you can view your iPhone easily.

Flash on the iPhone
This may be more of news than an update. Adobe says that the iPhone version of the Adobe Flash is near but no specific date has been given as of yet. Rumor has it that the application is ready its just that the application has no passed Apple standards just yet.

Apple has once again brought us another breakthrough invention, the IPhone. So what is it about the iPhone that makes it the current electronic device of choice for many?
The iPhone’s Safari browser provides excellent Internet surfing experience. Over the Safari browser, web pages are displayed in all their html glory. All the graphics and images are displayed, instead of the stripped down versions where limited images and text are shown. Of course, the phone’s excellent quality widescreen adds even more to the experience.
Visual voicemail further pushes the iPhone to the forefront. In the iPhone’s visual voicemail, users can skip messages and move on to the more important ones without having to go through every single message in the mailbox. This makes the iPhone an extremely productive tool.
The phone’s user interface experience is unmatched by any other phone so far. iPhone’s innovative multitouch technology allows users to manipulate the device in varied, fun ways. You can do a multitude of functions with a touch of a finger: zoom in by pinching fingers apart on the screen, flip through web pages by sliding your finger across the screen, press and hold down to magnify a section of text, swipe across the display to look at photos and so on. When browsing the internet or watching videos and playing music, you can tip the phone to its side and the screen adjusts automatically to landscape mode. The iPhone display screen is so attractive you just can’t help but touch it.
Aesthetics is also another factor that sets the iPhone apart from other smartphones in the market. Its design is quite unique – it looks sleek and trim, with practically no external trappings around the phone. The only buttons you see on the phone are the menu button, the power button which you can also use to control calls and on the side are the volume and ringer mute switches. It is very compact at 4.5 inches long, 2.4 inches wide and 0.46 inch thick.
The iPhone is also an iPod, with yet another improved feature: album artwork display. You can browse through your song list in Cover Flow mode and the screen will show you the authentic album designs. This makes it feel like you are flipping through your CD collection.
There is a YouTube player integrated into the phone. You can search the most featured clips, access the most recently posted videos and the most popularly viewed much in the same way you would over the YouTube website.
Camera functions of the iPhone are pretty good. Its 2-megapixel resolution lends to rich, brilliant images and although you cannot edit photos on the iPhone and there is no flash, overall picture quality is still excellent. The shutter feature is also cool, when you take a picture the display closes and opens much in the same way a camera lens would.
Fans of the iPhone say it may indeed be the new standard under which smartphones will be judged. So if you don’t currently own an IPhone, now is the time to get one.
