Palm Centro

Posted In: Product Reviews

The Palm Centro is one of the newest smartphones available on the market today. Very few people know about the Palm Centro because it’s release was greatly overshadowed by the new Apple iPhone. The Centro is much smaller than previous Palm smartphones, weighing in at only 4.2 ounces. As with nearly all Palm smartphones, the Centro operates on Palm OS making it easy to download and install countless third party applications. Compared to the iPhone the 64 MB of internal memory on the Centro seems small, but with microSD cards that memory can be expanded up to 4 GB. The reason Palm decided not to go with more internal memory was the lack of necessity. The Centro is meant to be a phone and a PDA, neither of these require extremely large amounts of memory though they did keep expansion slots available for those who wish to use the Centro as a media player. The Centro has been designed to work with common applications such as Google Maps, AOL Instant Messenger, Windows Live Messenger, and others. Along side these official applications is an endless selection of user-created and third party applications which can achieve nearly anything on a Palm device. Some of the leading features of the Centro are the touchscreen, 1.3 megapixel camera, a full QWERTY keyboard, and even a powerful and fast web browser which is capable of much more than the average cell phone browser. Depending on the plan you purchase from Sprint, it is even possible to watch live TV on the Centro.

Currently the Centro is only available from Sprint or directly from Palm, and as a result the phones are locked on the Sprint wireless network. There are currently no plans for the Centro to become universally available, so it is likely that it will remain a Sprint only phone. Because the Centro is made by Palm, there is a strong history of excellence behind the Centro. Prior to the Centro release Palm’s leading line of Treo smartphones had dominated the smartphone market. Perhaps one of the best aspects of the Palm Centro is its price. For a qualified buyer who signs a wireless plan with Sprint the Centro is available for as little as $99.99, even without a plan the Centro is available for as little as $399.99. Both of these prices are very competitive in the market, and for what the Centro can do these prices are very good. If you are looking for a touchscreen phone, which can compete with the iPhone the Palm Centro might be a good phone to checkout. With nearly all the same features as an iPhone, as long as you don’t plan to listen to music on your phone for hours the Palm Centro will provide exactly what you need both as a phone and a PDA.

Social Networking is such a huge thing these days. In person, on the internet, and now you can carry it with you. That’s right, on your phone. You now have the ability to network while say on the bus, on the job (though its trouble if your boss catches you.), you have the ability to network wherever and whenever. Think I’m lying? Fifty million people this year around the globe will be getting into social networking via the phone. By the time we get to 2011 its going to be up to one hindered and seventy four million people.

What are the reasons for this increase? Well one of the factors in this increase is the fact that now more than ever people have access to the broadband web. Fifteen years ago it was barely heard of to have a slow mo dial up connection. Now I don’t hardly know anyone myself who has anything less than DSL, with cable being the average and the super geek running with T1 lines. The fact that you can now have internet on your cell phone is also a big factor into why people are interacting via social networks through the phone.

Take for instance the company Helio. It’s a small up and coming cell phone which boasts some of the best phones in the business. Not only that they have some awesome services and an awesome web browser. In fact this web browser says it’s so fast that sometimes It beats your home networks connection. Now look at what they provide on their phones, you can access MySpace directly. Imagine that. Directly you can access MySpace, say your in the club hanging out with some of your fave friends and you want to advertise this online or make photos easier for them to get, well MySpace on Helio is to the rescue. You take the picture with that six megapixel phone and then you can upload it directly to MySpace and put it on your profile all in the club.

Looking at other companies they are not behind on this craze either. A lot of people may have heard of a company that’s getting bigger and bigger called cricket communications. Cricket phones are so big because of the fact that you can call and talk and text all day cheaper than the other services. You can do it unlimitedly and it doesn’t require any credit checks to get with them either. And so while they may not be Helio, they offer the net to their customers as well. Look at what they have… MySpace mobile, m3 communities, ad much much more. Even on a phone service that’s been touted as being cheap there are people that can connect to the webs mobile communities.

This is the future of networking. Imagine networking on the phone and web at the same time your networking in person, this is an amazing ability! So look forward to the new era of networking, it’s in the palm of your hand.

With the internet becoming more and more virtual these days, there are plenty of companies who have come out with products to make our lives easier dealing with technology and computers. The Celluon company knows about the annoyances and troubles that stem from computers and technology all too well, which is why they have come out with a great product for their brand name. That product is essentially a virtual keyboard that you can take with you “virtually.”

The keyboard actually makes use of a sensor module that also has a receptor system that allows the system to know where you are typing. Since this is not an actual keyboard, users who love the keyboard are able to simply type with their fingers on the desk or other material that’s near them. All of these pieces of technology, though, come together to be able to identify where the user has placed his or her fingers. Another good thing about the Celluon 3D keyboard is the fact that it’s compatible with virtually any other handheld device or computer that you already have. For example, not only will this 3D keyboard work with Windows’ operating systems, but it’s also compatible with Blackberry, Palm, Smart Phone, and Windows Mobile. All the owner of this keyboard has to do is plug the system into their USB port in order to make the keyboard work. Furthermore, the device will even be able to work up to 60 feet away from the actual 3D keyboard device.

Many personal digital assistant owners today feel that the keyboards and systems of typing that they have available to them is just not enough, and most of this is due to the fact that they are usually too small for some reason or another. But if you purchase the Celluon 3D keyboard, that will be available in early-to-mid September of 2007, you will be able to try out the system before yourself before it’s marketed and sales go worldwide!

The price is very reasonable, too, considering the amount of benefits that you’ll have by purchasing the 3D keyboard system. This keyboard will be retailing for just over $200, but in addition with all of the stuff already mentioned about the device, Celluon will make the keyboard capable of typing major international languages, such as Korean, French, Spanish, and German. However, this 3D keyboard will also be Bluetooth capable and will be able to be connected to a USB port. That is the main reason why people have started to take an interest in the Celluon product, but it truly is a good product to sell to those who absolutely need a slightly larger keyboard and typing pad for their comfort.

If you’re not convinced that you’ll find this product satisfying, though, you just may want to come up with the cash in order to try it out first! However, the Celluon CL850 will definitely be worth the price that’ll be paid for it, and one can almost guarantee that this will be just as awesome as Celluon’s first product of the Celluon Laserkey CL800BT.
